Caveat emptor, the concept that the buyer alone is responsible for checking the quality of a product before purchasing it, is especially crucial when considering medical foods, supplements or vitamins. This is particularly true in the United States as the industry is not subject to the same regulations and scrutiny as the FDA-regulated pharmaceutical industry is.
At KidneyAide LLC, we deeply embrace this concept. Our CEO and founder, Dr Barry, is a full-time practicing Nephrologist and the face of the company. With that in mind we work tirelessly to make certain our products live up to the highest standards for all patients. While we may not be subject to the same level of scrutiny as a pharmaceutical company, we conduct ourselves as if we are. That is why all of our products are:
- Manufactured in an FDA-registered facility
- Made in the United States of America
- Adhere to certified good manufacturing practices
- Undergo continuous and extensive third-party independent laboratory testing.
Third-party independent laboratory testing is an integral part of the UreaAide manufacturing process. When our product is ready for market we send multiple samples to Eurofins laboratory. Eurofins is a globally renowned leader in laboratory testing. The laboratory operates independently and is third-party, meaning it’s not affiliated with the manufacturer or the distributor but completely independent. Our products undergo rigorous safety testing, including a comprehensive battery of microbial tests and water content. The purity of Urea is also tested to ensure each dose is consistent, accurate and effective. UreaAide subsequently undergoes further testing for shelf life, stability and excursion tested.
Shelf life testing involves subjecting packaged products to months and then years of periodic sampling to ensure they maintain the same safety and potency as the day they were manufactured. Stability testing follows a similar concept, demonstrating that the product remains stable while preserving its purity and potency. Finally excursion testing involves exposing the products to extreme conditions to ensure that the packaging can withstand any external circumstances. In the case of UreaAide, it undergoes testing for extreme heat and humidity by being placed in a hot box for 5 days and tested for the same purity, potency, safety and stability. This extreme testing is to mimic possible conditions it may be exposed to if for example the product is shipped during a heat wave.
In conclusion, it is crucial to verify that any products you consume have undergone independent laboratory testing for safety and purity, ensuring that you are fully aware of what you are getting. Undertaking such rigorous testing is a significant commitment and expense, which is why many companies are unwilling to undergo it. If a company does conduct thorough testing, they are likely to display the certificate of analysis proudly, as we do, to provide assurance and transparency to the customer. Therefore, look for companies that openly share their testing practices to ensure your protection.
